Liverpool Legend Recovering at Home
Former Liverpool and Scotland footballer, Alan Hansen, has been discharged from the hospital and is now recovering at home.
The 69-year-old – who has reportedly been suffering gravely from an undisclosed illness that began earlier this month – has received an outpouring of support from fans and colleagues. His family expressed their gratitude for the overwhelming messages in a statement released via the Reds’ official website on Sunday, 23 June.
Hansen, a central defender, spent 14 years at Liverpool after joining from Partick Thistle in 1977. He played a key role in the club’s most successful period, winning eight First Division titles, three European Cups, and two FA Cups.
With 620 appearances, he is among the top ten players for all-time appearances at Anfield. He also earned 26 caps for Scotland, and played in the 1982 World Cup.
After his professional sports career, Hansen transitioned to a successful punditry vocation, spending over 20 years in the role until his official retirement in 2014.
Friends and former teammates, including Graeme Souness and Kenny Dalglish’s daughter Lauren, have celebrated his recovery, with Souness noting that Hansen sounded in good spirits during a recent call.
Hansen’s family continues to appreciate the respect shown for their privacy as he recuperates at home.
